Land Acknowledgment

Aloha!

We would like to recognize that Her Majesty Queen Lili‘uokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom and these territories under duress and protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people. We further recognize that Hawai‘i remains an illegally occupied state of America.

While we promote tourism in Hawai’i, it does not mean that we encourage anyone to move there. We are grateful that the Indigenous people of Hawai’i allow us to visit and make incredible memories on their land, and we vow to encourage others to protect it, including their communities and culture as well.

On this blog, we try to use the Hawaiian language (‘ōlelo Hawai‘i) in areas where we can, but sometimes I may not use it for addresses for searchability purposes. I will also not override brand names that have been spelled in Hawaiian. I am also using the spelling ‘Hawaii’ for the state and ‘Hawai’i’ for the Big Island for clarity purposes for travelers (except here on this Land Acknowledgement).
